How to keep hair healthy in the heat…
We’ve been blessed with some gorgeous sunny weather in the UK lately, and if you know me, you know I’m not complaining!
However, the additional sun exposure and increased temperatures can play havoc with hair. It can cause dryness, frizz, discolouration and even breakage. Here’s my top tips to help combat this and keep hair feeling and looking healthy this summer.
- Cover up when you can…
We know to cover our skin to protect it against the sun and UV rays but most people don’t do the same for their hair. Covering up with a hat or tying up hair in a silk scarf will shield your hair from the heath and harmful rays. Not only this, it will also help reduce the impact of humidity which can be the main cause of frizz - we all remember Monica when she goes to Barbados right?
- Get regular trims…
I know I’m a hairdresser but it’s no myth! Regular hair cuts to get rid of split ends is crucial for maintaining sleek, fresh looking hair. You’ll find products work better and styles last longer in freshly tended locks. If you’re near Salisbury - why don’t you book in to see me or the team?
- Prep hair before swimming…
If you’re going to be swimming in the sea or pool, it’s important to prep your hair first. Chlorine and saltwater can be equally damaging to hair as they strip it of its natural oils. Apply a hydrating conditioner like my TOTAL TREAT Indulgent Nourishing Conditioner as a hair mask will create a moisturising barrier between it and the water. If you prefer an oil my COCO LICIOUS Nourishing Coconut Oil works in a similar way. If you’re spending the day in and out of the water, consider filling a reusable spray bottle with clean, fresh water and spritzing your hair each time you come out of the water to help cleanse hair of the salt or chemicals.
- Switch up your Shampoo and Conditioner for something richer and more moisturising…
Hair experiences more build up in the summer months due to products, pollen, increased temperatures and other dirt and grime. Using a Shampoo and Conditioner that cleanses hair of this but doesn’t strip it further is vital. Try my most most recent launch, the BOND & PLEX range. It is enriched with Orchid Flower Extract, to transform damaged hair leaving it feeling healthy and hydrated but not greasy.
- Go for heatless styling…
My CURLY LOCKS Curl Cream is formulated to help keep curls sleek and tamed but in warmer weather it also helps calm frizz. Run a small amount through the lengths and ends of damp hair and leave it dry naturally for a glossy, smooth finish.
I hope this helps keep your hair healthy this summer, I’m off to the beach!
